Welcome to the Muscle Beach Story!

    The Muscle Beach Network

    Original Online Resource Since 1999

Muscle Beach was established on the beach area south of the Santa Monica Pier in the 1930s as a part of a beachfront movement of gymnasts, acrobats and many other talented athletes who converged on a small section of the Santa Monica coastline.

Very soon it became so popular, that it became the most famous outdoor gym in the world – and is now known as springboard of the Physical Fitness Movement of the 20th Century. In 1951, 17 years later, the second most famous beachfront gym arrived – the Venice Beach “Weight Pen” – which eventually became known as today’s “Muscle Beach Venice”.

This website is intended to unveil the history of Muscle Beach. Visit here to learn genuine facts and first-hand history and meet some of the pioneers of the Muscle Beach movement – with more being added here ahead!
